Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Hi Folks:

Well by all accounts the snow this year is late, but as they say better late than never...and besides, it's still an early snow by most people standards. It's been snowing for two days now. Although I woundln't call it a storm, it is snowing at a steady rate. If the snow keeps up at this rate there will be enough to use the snowmobiles by the weekend. The ice isn't really strong enough, but there are plenty of trails around here that don't involve ice. Funny thing about living here is that you buy almost no gas for your car or truck, and tons for your snowmobiles. Well, at least it's lots of fun!

The second and last mud season of the year is over, thankfully (yes, there are two - spring and fall). With the freezeup over the last few weeks and now the snow, the town looks so clean and...well...so much like it should. If you live in the north you expect to have snow most of the year, and although it might sound funny to folks down south, the snow is a welcome sight.

It's getting pretty dark this time of the year as well and the snow seems to brighten everything up. It's quieter too and the snow absorbs sound and makes everything seem like it's going to sleep for the winter. No us though. We have plans.

We were a little late getting the snowmobiles last year, and so we had limited time on them. That won't be the case this year. I , for one, plan to get maximum snow time. At least the gas companies will like me!

Cheers!

  • Hi Lorne,
I was born in Inuvik but now live in Kamloops BC. I love reading your blogs to my 2 year old son who has never been to Inuvik.
