The Evaluation

Temp: -30°C
Sunlight - 11.98 hours

I am actually writing this entry on Sunday…for good reason.

We had our evaluation. Mostly everything went by the book. We had a couple of small glitches – every mission does – but nothing we couldn’t handle on the fly. The evaluators kept a sharp eye on everything we did and they sure asked a lot of questions. It was a long day, and it had some stress, but in the end our practice and rehearsals served us well. We passed the evaluation with flying colours! We are now fully military certified and we will be given the opportunity to train on a variety of military gear – of special interest to me – the C-130 Hercules. It’s one of the biggest planes in the Canadian Military and I am told that it can perform some pretty wild acrobatics. The Herc will be up in our neck of the woods in September, and like a lot of CASARA members, I will be lobbying for a spot on that flight.

After the evaluation and a break, we all headed off to the RCMP mess for some food and a few well deserved drinks. It was an opportunity for us to wind down after an eventful few weeks. And we did that in fine style. There were poker tables, pool tables, a big screen TV and dart boards all set up for us. We had a great time.

A few of the guys came back to our place and we were up till about 5AM drinking and talking. Most of us are from the east cost so there’s nothing new there!

Cheers!
